Honda Recalls 61,000 Vehicles in Canada Due to Fuel Pump Defect, Increasing Fire Risk

Honda has announced a voluntary recall of 61,000 vehicles in Canada due to a potentially serious issue with the high-pressure fuel pump. The recall stems from concerns that a defective part within the fuel pump could develop cracks, leading to fuel leaks. This defect, if left unaddressed, poses a significant safety risk, as a fuel leak in the presence of a spark could lead to a fire, which in turn raises the possibility of crashes or injuries.

In a statement released last week, Honda emphasized that there have been no confirmed reports of fires, crashes, or injuries related to the issue in either Canada or the United States. However, the company is taking precautionary measures by recalling more than 700,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 61,000 in Canada to address the defect. Honda has committed to ensuring the safety of its customers and is advising vehicle owners to act promptly.

The models affected by this recall include several popular vehicles:

  • 2023-2024 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid
  • 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
  • 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Sedan Hybrid

Honda has indicated that owners of these affected vehicles will receive notifications by mail starting in December. Once contacted, they will be asked to take their vehicles to an authorized Honda dealer for a free inspection. If the fuel pump is found to contain the defective part, it will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner. Honda has also provided an option for concerned owners to search for their vehicle’s information number (VIN) on the company’s website to check whether their car is part of the recall.

This latest recall marks the second major recall issued by Honda in Canada this month. Earlier in October, Honda recalled nearly 240,000 vehicles due to a steering system defect that could impact vehicle control. This new recall, with its potential fire hazard, adds to a growing list of safety concerns for the automaker, prompting some customers to question the reliability of certain models.

Despite the recall, Honda is working proactively to manage the situation and ensure that the necessary repairs are completed efficiently. The company encourages all owners of affected models to participate in the recall process to avoid any risks associated with the defect.
