Meena Kumari Biopic Starring Kriti Sanon Delayed Again, Filming Now Set for 2025

The much-anticipated biopic of Meena Kumari, featuring Kriti Sanon and directed by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra, has faced another delay. Initially planned for a 2023 shoot, the project was postponed to 2024 and now is expected to commence filming in early 2025.

Reports from Mid-day indicate this is not the first postponement for the biopic, which aims to chronicle the life and artistry of the iconic actress. Sources close to the production reveal that Manish Malhotra is meticulously revisiting the script, with the material being vetted by multiple script doctors to ensure the utmost accuracy in capturing Meena Kumari’s essence.

The delay will provide the team more time for meticulous pre-production planning, essential for recreating the golden age of Hindi cinema. This includes the painstaking crafting of period-accurate costumes, crucial for authentically portraying one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated actresses.

Kriti Sanon, taking on her first biopic in her decade-long career, will depict Meena Kumari, known as the “Tragedy Queen” for her memorable portrayals of sorrow and resilience. The film will highlight her unforgettable performances in classics like Baiju Bawra (1952), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), and Pakeezah (1972), before her career was tragically cut short in 1972.
